This single is the lead in for the third Blue October album "One Day Silver, One Day Gold", and features remixes by Wideband Network, Love|less, and Rob Verboom. The title track itself is one I'm still on the fence on even after multiple listens. The chorus isn't terribly catchy, but it's enjoyable. However, it seems to take the song a very long time to get to the chorus.. the verses seem to drag on and on!
The Liberation mix is Ultra-Trance: Pounding beat, spacey synth sweeps and a bouncing repetitive simplistic bassline. It's enjoyable, but the really impressive part is hearing a trance mix such as this actually clock in at under 6 minutes! Wideband Network lend their looser, more laid-back brand of pop stylings to their remix, and it works really well for the song! The two b-sides, well, Love|less' gritty and punchy mix of "Supanova" is cool, but the vocals seem like they were meant for a slower rendition of the song, and especially in the chorus it seems a odd combo. "Fireclad" isn't a bad track.. it's just 4 minutes overlong. The main question: Is this single good? Well... Yes, but it's by no means perfect. "Free" might not be the most invigorating track ever recorded, but it's a fairly solid popsong that will appeal to many people.
